I had my share of ups and downs
After leaving the security of the Administrative Service in the Singapore Civil Service to challenge the unknown, I went through 2 business failures that instead seriously challenged my self-esteem.
In the end, it was sheer stubbornness and my passion for teaching that helped me turn the corner. After that experience, I firmly believe that what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger, for I emerge feeling ready to face anything. And boy did I need that when I entered politics. It started innocently enough.I believe in political plurality and wanted to support an opposition party. But the more I got involved, the more clearly I saw how Singapore will benefit from a stronger opposition.
I got in deeper than I originally intended and contested in GE2011.My political journey, like my business journey, was not smooth sailing.I joined and left 2 political parties and at one stage decided I have reached the end of my political journey, and it is time to just take care of myself and the people around me. But when I learned that Dr Tan Cheng Bock is starting a political party, I felt that I have to support this. That decision led me to my current role as an NCMP from PSP.
